2024
Voluntary work as Senior Expert
The German Senior Expert Service gGmbH is recruiting skilled specialists with at least 8 years’ experience for short-term international assignments.
I applied for a placement in Kazakhstan and was invited to collaborate with the teaching staff at Kyzylorda State University. My role involved providing training and coaching in interpreting and translation.
This experience gave me a great blend of professional and personal insights. Preparing for the assignment prompted me to re-visit my translation and interpreting textbooks and develop fresh perspectives on my practice. And this proved very useful in my conversations with colleagues, particularly when comparing our approaches to generative AI – a topic I find especially fascinating.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made this opportunity possible!
2022 – 2023
Content Design and Editing: E-Commerce
A long-term project in a large international team, where my role was to review, correct and adapt translated content (over 350,000 words from English into Russian). Main topics covered: e-commerce, online marketplaces, guidance and rules for sellers and buyers.
Great team experience, and an excellent opportunity to see MT integration in real working conditions.

COSINES Pi
Third prize at the International Contest of simultaneous and consecutive interpreters COSINES Pi
How useful is a legal instruction if it is a machine translation?
My work environment is being increasingly shaped by machine translation. To better understand the use and implications of this new instrument, I did a research project under guidance of a university professor specialised in translation technologies. In order to evaluate the usefulness of MT, I was able to organise an experiment (many thanks to all 80 participants!). For me as a professional translator and interpreter, the results of the experiment were surprising and encouraging.
