Here are some of the most interesting and challenging projects I worked on in 2017-2023:

(2022-2023) Content Design and Editing

Project in a large international team, where my role was to review, correct and adapt translated content (350 000 words from English into Russian). Great team experience, and an excellent opportunity to see MT integration in real working conditions.

(2021) COSINES Pi

Third prize at the International Contest of simultaneous and consecutive interpreters COSINES Pi

(2021) How useful is a legal instruction if it is a machine translation?

My work environment is being increasingly shaped by machine translation. To better understand the use and implications of this new instrument, I did a research project under guidance of a university professor specialised in translation technologies. In order to evaluate the usefulness of MT, I was able to organize an experiment (many thanks to all 80 participants!). For me as a professional translator and interpreter, the results of the experiment were surprising and encouraging.

(2021) Logistics and reporting

Translating official legal and finance documentation (Russian>English, German) for a major Russian logistics company.
The main challenge: Russian Accounting Standards terminology.
Client’s feedback: “Our experience shows that Mrs Walcher has excellent specialised knowledge which enables her always, also in urgent matters, to prepare reliable and accurate translations. We are very satisfied with this cooperation.”

(2020) Getting started with new colleagues

Successful start of cooperation with a high quality translation agency in Mannheim. The main field: English>Russian, legal and financial texts. Software: SDL Trados and MemoQ.
Client’s feedback: “We would like to thank you for the competent translations and professional handling. We are looking forward to further cooperation.”

(2019) Commodities and contracts

Preparing a wide range of documents in three languages for an independent raw materials company: legal, business, reporting.
Client’s feedback: “…always reliable, competent and accurate work.”

(2018) TAIEX Study Visit on improving system of port state control inspection

Interpreting in Hamburg (English/Russian, consecutive and whispering) for a Ukrainian delegation. Main focus: legislation and standards for ship inspection and ship survey organisations.
Feedback by the German Ship Safety Division: “This was a smooth and productive meeting.”

(2017) Translating in team

Set up a team to translate and proofread a 130-page conference volume (English>Russian). Serious subject: mass graves worldwide. We delivered the project ahead of schedule!
Feedback by DVV International: “Excellent language skills and strong research ability were essential here. All work was done to our utmost satisfaction.”
